The Limits of Work

A series on work, efficiency, burnout, middle age, usefulness, achievement, changing course, and rest.

About the Series

The Limits of Work asks what happens when work becomes the main measure of a human life. The series examines efficiency, burnout, usefulness, achievement, changing course, rest, and worth beyond the job. It is not a rejection of work, but a refusal to let work absorb the whole person. Each book gives language to pressures many readers know: speed, exhaustion, recalculation, and the search for a life not entirely governed by production.

Who This Series Is For

  • want to rethink the relation between work, efficiency, achievement, and the value of life;
  • are concerned with burnout, midlife, uselessness, changing paths, rest, and other questions often neglected in modern life;
  • want to think about how a fuller measure of life can remain possible beyond work.
